The Purple Tree
Gallery originated from a series of paintings, the
Purple Tree Series.
The story behind the purple tree has developed over the years. At the age of
thirty three I was able to express the relationship I experience with nature
without copying a photo but working from within. The images created were
inspired by nature walks and drives throughout many places, parts of the United
States, often Florida, including memories of Connecticut, Spain and
Africa. Different places with a similar enchantment. On my many journeys I kept
being lured by this one particular tree on the Florida Turnpike, it is now
"The Purpletree" to me, my family and friends. Now that I have shared
perhaps if you drive on the Florida Turnpike between Orlando and Ocala you may be
able to spot "The Purpletree". I often wonder who actually "owns" the tree. I
am curious if the farmer whose land it is on has any ideas like I express
about that tree? I have traveled by "The Purpletree" on many adventures. The
best one was when I met my prince charming, who then took me to the land named
after him as his wife. Perhaps the tree signifies hope, solitude, unity,
strength, the cross, nearing death, change, new life....I am not sure. Maybe I
just like the color purple. My mother is a psychiatric social worker and told me
purple means pain, whereas I believe it is a color of royalty. Based on the
experience of the purpletree series I am painting skies and beaches from within
using references to guide me. Hope you enjoy them.
